Private Piano lEssons in Colorado Springs, CO

Personalized instruction for musicians of any age or skill level!

Hi, I'm Julian Genova, a professional pianist, composer, and educator based in Colorado Springs.

I graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Film & Media Scoring and a minor in Conducting. Throughout my career, I've performed as a solo pianist, collaborated with jazz ensembles, blues bands, orchestras, and choirs, and provided live music for weddings, corporate events, and concerts across Colorado and beyond.

As an instructor, I believe music lessons should be both structured and enjoyable. Every student has different goals, whether it's learning their first song, preparing for competitions or auditions, exploring jazz improvisation, composing original music, or simply playing for fun. My lessons are tailored to each student's interests while building a strong foundation in technique, musicianship, music theory, ear training, and creativity.

Above all, my goal is to help students develop confidence at the piano and a lifelong love of music in a positive, encouraging environment.

FAQs

Do I need a piano?

A piano or keyboard at home is strongly recommended so students can practice between lessons. An acoustic piano is ideal, but a quality digital piano with weighted keys can also be a great option, especially for beginners or families with limited space.

How old should my child be?

Every student is different, but many children are ready to begin lessons around ages 5–7. The most important factors are curiosity, willingness to practice, and the ability to follow basic instructions. I also welcome older children, teens, and adults who are interested in learning.

How often are lessons?

Most students take one lesson per week. Weekly lessons provide consistent progress while allowing time to practice and develop new skills between sessions. Twice weekly lessons may be recommended for younger beginning students or students preparing for auditions and performances.

What books do you use?

Lesson materials are personalized based on each student's age, experience level, goals, and musical interests. Students may use a combination of method books, repertoire, theory exercises, ear training, and supplemental materials to build well-rounded musicianship.

Can adults take lessons?

Absolutely! Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to piano after years away, or looking to explore jazz, songwriting, or your favorite songs, lessons can be tailored to your goals and interests.

Do you teach jazz?

Yes! Jazz is one of my specialties. Students can explore improvisation, chord symbols, lead sheets, jazz harmony, ear training, and learning to play by ear. Lessons can also incorporate classical, pop, blues, film music, and other styles depending on the student's interests.
